Edexcel International GCSE Chemistry 4CH1 tutoring online: Papers 1C and 2C, every topic
This page is for students sitting Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Chemistry 4CH1. It sums up how the two papers differ, what the bold content is, how practicals are examined, the latest grade boundaries, and how the Boom-Tutor course prepares each part.
The short answer
4CH1 is untiered: everyone sits the same two papers, 180 marks in total, graded 9 to 1 on the total. There is no separate practical exam; the set practicals are examined in the written papers.
There are two series a year, June and November. Facts from the Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Chemistry 4CH1 specification (Issue 3).
The 4CH1 papers
Both papers are sat in the same series and the marks are simply added. June 2026 grade boundaries (out of 180): grade 9 at 141 · grade 7 at 103 · grade 4 at 66. Boundaries move every series.
| Paper | What it covers | Time | Marks | Weighting |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Paper 1C | Core content (not bold) | 2 h | 110 | 61.1% |
| Paper 2C | All content, including the deeper bold content | 1 h 15 min | 70 | 38.9% |
The four specification sections
The course follows every 4CH1 section. Sections with a free guide on the site are linked.
| Section | Content | Read next |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Principles of chemistry (states of matter, atoms, bonding, formulae and equations, moles, electrolysis) | Mole formulas · Balancing equations · Electrolysis |
| 2 | Inorganic chemistry (groups, gases in the atmosphere, reactivity, acids, bases and salts, chemical tests) | Titration · Ion and gas tests, Edexcel version |
| 3 | Physical chemistry (energetics, rates of reaction, equilibria) | – |
| 4 | Organic chemistry | Organic reaction map |
Practicals live in the written papers
4CH1 has no Paper 6 like Cambridge, but questions on the set practicals, such as chromatography and preparing copper(II) sulfate crystals, appear in both papers. Experimental skills (AO3) are about 19–21% of the total marks.
Students need to know the method, apparatus and how to read results for each set practical even without a lab. The course uses simulated labs to walk through each step before the questions.
